Getting Your Blog Noticed

Well, as I found myself reading a post on ProBlogger.net I just had to start writing something I realised I had learned myself. I’ve been reading a lot lately about blogging and what works and what doesn’t and what’s out there to help you get started and become better at it.

A lot of what I’ve learned makes sense and it takes practice and time. One thing I will  be doing to improve myself in life as well as blogging is putting a few key ideas into effect. Let me explain.

I started blogging because it is fun to me to  be able to just get online and share with anyone who comes to my blog what I know about anything. I have a website at www.bluepop13.com that I coded all myself and I truly enjoy having it, however, blogging just takes it a step further. When you blog you create a whole new world of ideas that are not as looked upon with a traditional web page.

A blog is basic and easy which in return makes it extremely fun to do. And if you don’t have fun doing it then you’re simply doing it wrong. Wait, there is a wrong way to blog? Sure is. There are all kinds of wrong ways to blog. It will, of course, depend on why you blog and what you blog about that will determine if it’s wrong or right.

A few blogs I’ve been reading recently that have got me to start thinking a lot about my own blog are DailyBlogTips.com, ProBlogger.net, Lockergnome.com and Enterpreneurs-journey.com just to name a few. I’ve learned quite a bit from all of them and what I’ve come to realise and will start practising on my own is simple.

1) When you start blogging you should be doing it for fun – have a passion and continue on a regular basis to write about what you love. If you don’t write about something you love then you won’t be anxious to write something on a regular basis. If you’re just writing for fun that’s okay but it’s still not a bad idea to do it on a regular basis if it’s what you love writing about. After all, everyone wants an audience of some sort.

2) When you have an idea – write. Don’t think about when you should write or how to spice up the idea… Just beging writing. This will allow you to look back at what you wrote so you can continue to write about that until you are ready to publish the final draft. Just get out a pencil and paper and write. You don’t even have to blog about it just yet. Do that when it’s ready and will speak loudly for itself.

3) Balance is key in my opinion. Really. You should get out there and just blog. Don’t even read other blogs until you’ve at least made a few posts and then dive into the WWW to find other blogs similar to yours and comment on particular posts and introduce yourself. Add a link to your blog in your message there and keep on working to get yourself out there.

Twitter, MySpace, FaceBook, Blotit and so many more all do help but ultimately your “good” content is what will help most and balance will set you straight I believe.

Okay, so you’ve read all of this and maybe wondering how I mean to balance since you might find that you should just seriously get out there and start posting your own content. Fair enough, I will give you my opinion.

Set your priorities straight. That’s it. Real quick I would like you to make a note that I have learned a lot of amazing things from one of my favorite authors Larry Winget. I put that in here because I also believe that time management is a joke and that you should seriously manage your priorities, not time. This completely applies to blogging as well.

To blog effectively in my opinion: Read blogs and figure out what you want to do to get the most out of your own blog after you have made a few posts of course. Pick some key items and make some time for each of those on a regular basis. Keep doing this at least every other day. This will help you tremendously and here’s why. When you do a couple key things you are working on your blog as well as learning more and applying what you’ve learned each time. Doing that will help even if it doesn’t help right away.

Your main focus should be on one key thing: producing content to people who want what you have to offer. You want readers. You want traffic. Without that it’s just you and your friend(s) (hopefully you have some to share your blog with) reading what you have written about in your blog and you’re not really getting yourself out there.

To be honest, making any sort of money with your blog is not a new idea and it can work even for the average Joe, however, I believe if you even have this as a goal as to why you blog or do this in any step but last you are doomed to fail. Don’t worry about the money. Write, learn, have fun, and repeat. It’s just that simple. :)

Bottom line is that you should always be learning new and effective ways to blog and apply learning and experimenting in life as well. Just go for it. Read and learn a bit, then go do something about it. Results are everything. You might fail but keep on going and don’t let failure get you down and keep you down. Get back up and learn from your mistakes.

Experiment and decide what works best for you. And again, in life and in blogging: keep learning. :)
